PLOT:

The game starts off 5 years after Order 66. You play as Cal Krestis, A padawan who survived order 66 and is in hiding. He’s a scrapper working with Prauf. Until they get into trouble and Cal has to use the force to save his friend. The Empire found out that Cal is a Jedi. Cal eventually escaped with help of two people Cere Junda and Greez Dritus. Cere tells Cal that he has to access an ancient vault that was built by the Zeffo. While Cal goes to The Ancient Vault, He is accompanied by a droid named BD-1. The Ancient Vault has a Jedi Holocron that has every youngling that has the force. They want to use it so they can rebuild The Jedi Order. So Cal has to go to planet to planet to unlock The Ancient Vault.

GAMEPLAY:

The game is a third person, Hack ‘n” Slash type game. Cal has a lot of moves at his disposal. Though they have to be unlocked by either playing through the story, or unlocking skills. His Skills are limited but open at the same time. He has a skill tree with three ways he can put skillpoints into: Force, LightSaber, & Survival. Cal can unlock skillpoints by killing enemies or inspecting something BD-1 can find. BD-1 also gets upgrades that can help you along the journey.

PRESENTATION:

The game looks and sounds beautiful, but with some problems. There is frame drops and pop-ins. Though its only on the console version. Other than that I love all the planets, & the deep lore with each planet makes this experiance a pleasent one.

If you are a Star Wars geek or someone who wants to play a good hack ‘n’ slash game, then this game is for you.

The Wedding Pact (The O'Malleys, #2)The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book in The O’Malley’s series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and enjoyment, please read this series in order. The contents in later books may have spoilers.

Carrigan and James have a hot history of hookups and kidnapping. Complicated does not begin to cover this. They are attracted to each other in a very electric way.

James cannot stop thinking about her. He knows her father intends to marry her off to another man and it is eating him alive. Carrigan is out of time and options for her future. James is her one vice.

This book was so full of heat it was nearly on fire! The story is fast paced and steady. Some of our favorite characters make appearances too. I think this series is incredible. If you love a slow and fierce burn this is the book!

Kitty’s Book Spot – Getting to know Emmy Curtis, Author

INTERVIEW:

1. Do you have a favorite book or story that you loved as a child/youth?

I loved A TRAVELLER IN TIME by Alison Uttley. As you can tell by the spelling in the title, it’s an English book written in the 1930s. No I’m NOT that old! It was about a girl who travels through time (the clue was in the title 😉 ) from the 1930s to the 1500s to become involved in a plot to free Mary, Queen of Scots. As a child it showed me a whole world outside of my own, which really set me on the road to writing!

2. For our readers getting to know you, how old were you when you started to write?

*coughs* What? Um *coughs*… okay, I was in my thirties when I started to write. I wrote a YA book about a time traveling girl who goes back to the time of Achilles and the war at Troy. Oh. I just realized what I did there. Time traveling. Who would have thought this interview would be like therapy? Then I wrote another YA, also contemporary, but wrapped in historical myth. And then I started writing romance. By then I was *cough* a little older.

3. Do you write to music or make playlists for your books?

I did for my first YA that I ever wrote (the Achilles one), but since that book became a sock-drawer book, so did the music. And every time I listened to the music, I remembered how I failed on this book! So since then I haven’t, not least because it’s hard to get music that suits war zones! (Feel free to suggest some!)

4. Would you share a secret about yourself for our readers?

I have been in the British Intelligence MI5 offices more than once…

5. You have lived in many places. Where do you think was the most romantic?

All have been romantic for different reasons…Paris for the feeling of all the amazing artists who had been there before me, New York, because of the feeling that something exciting is always just about to happen, London, because it’s my hometown, and comfortable yet thrilling at the same time…but I think North Carolina, where I became a Mrs., is the most romantic (so far) 🙂

6. Does your special someone influence any of your leading men?

Abso-bloody-lutely. My husband is active duty US Air Force and a few of his own combat experiences have made their way into my books. And nearly every one of my heroes have an element of him in them, be it turns of phrase, opinions, or just experiences. Let’s not tell him that though…

Excerpt:

David Church eyed the people talking to his principal. Close protection was a bitch, but the company he worked for had saved him from self-destruction, so he basically owed them his soul. And this week, his soul was guarding a very important scientist. He had no idea who would want to hurt a scientist, but his boss had assigned him to Athens, and here he was.

Although his attention was on Professor Rankin, he was also scanning the room for someone special, the other reason he hadn’t complained at taking this job: Molly Solent was on the week’s schedule, and he wanted to see her.

Badly. Like blue-balls badly.

He’d kept track of her for nearly a year, since they’d met, briefly, in Iraq. At the time he’d been in no shape to choose a tie color, let alone date someone as…unique as Molly.

From the second he’d laid eyes on her, he knew she was trouble. Trouble for him, anyway. His eyes rested for a second on the far wall, which was adorned with a mosaic picture of an ancient Greek warrior. In some way he was like that mosaic. A fine illustration of a fighter, but when you got up close, you could see the cracks.

Millions of cracks. Good for no one, especially someone like Molly. Hell, he was barely in good enough shape to have this job. But his CEO had seen something in him—or so he’d said—something that David couldn’t see himself, and had sent him on a series of low-risk jobs. It had been almost enough to take his mind off Molly.

She had haunted his days and nights with her eyes that were full of promise, full of a future than he couldn’t see. She’d seen him at his worst, and it didn’t seem to faze her at all. Her eyes. He closed his own as he thought about her again. Innocent and totally open. She’d wanted him and hadn’t been afraid at all of making it clear.

Her image had kept him going through the long, dark nights of recovery. The single chink of light in his life. He was scared to lose that. Scared to see her.

The one thing that he was proud of, pretty much the only thing, was walking away from her before he sucked her into his downward spiral.

He had to keep his mind on that one point if he saw her here. He wasn’t fixed yet. Wasn’t entirely right. He still looked longingly at liquor, remembering the peace that came at the bottom of the bottle. He still dreamed that he’d fallen off the wagon. When he woke up, all he could remember is how good it felt. And the hallucinations. Nope. He definitely wasn’t ready for Molly. And she definitely didn’t deserve the shitstorm that seemed to always revolve around him.

The professor moved to speak to someone else, and David snapped back into alertness. He scanned the immediate crowd around him. No threats. But he couldn’t relax. She could be here. Molly could be right here, in the same room as him. He ran a finger under his collar as his temperature rose.

REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW

This is book # 4, in the Alpha Ops series. Like I have said before, this is a standalone novel. I always recommend reading any series in order as the author intends, for reader understanding and enjoyment. This book can be read alone, but it is so much better in order.

David and Molly met a year prior, and see each other at a cocktail party at a conference she is supposed to speak at. Tragedy strikes, and they are on the run together. David and Molly both wish they could have more time together.

Suspense! Heat! Passion that is enough to ignite even the reader… yes it is in there!

Molly always knew she would not get that much time with David. She takes any time he can give her. Knowing their time is running out, and feeling guilty she has sucked him into her international mess.

David is grateful for every minute he has with Molly. He is sad she cannot trust him like she should to keep them safe. He knows he will keep her safe, or die trying. Which he just might.

They both have a magnetic pull to one another that cannot be ignored. The sexual tension is incredible! The story is fast paced and exciting! I am rooting for them from the beginning and screaming at them as the book progresses. Definitely a keeper for your bookshelf! A real asset to the series. I cannot wait for the next book!

Friends First #4
Laura Drewry
Releasing Oct 13th, 2015
Loveswept

From USA Today bestselling author Laura Drewry comes a warm and witty new Friends First novel—perfect for readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery. How Forever Feels is a sweet tale about the one that got away . . . and the one that came back.

Maya McKay’s heart is as big as Jack Rhodes’s shoulders are broad. Their chemistry is out of control, but it could never work between them because Jack is more than just best friends with her cheating ex-husband—they’re like brothers. Maya, the sensitive, practical florist, has given up on love and is ready to settle for like. But now that Jack’s around again, he’s stirring up old feelings—and turning Maya’s fantasies into irresistible reality.

Jack blew his chance with Maya years ago when he stepped aside for his best friend, Will, and he’s still kicking himself about it. Maya was promised forever once before, and she got burned. But when Jack realizes that second chances aren’t going to fall out of the sky, he seizes the moment—and the woman he’s always loved—to show her how forever truly feels.

So what brings you to town?” Ellie asked. “And if you mention Dickhead’s name in your next sentence, you’re buying a round for the whole room.”

Thanks for the heads-up,” Jack muttered, giving the packed house a quick glance. “The company I work with is moving one of our offices up here, so I’m keeping an eye on things to make sure it all stays on track and we get going on time. I talked to the contractor the other day and it sounds like we’re on course, so hopefully—”

Duh!” Groaning, Jayne thumped the heel of her hand against her forehead. “You’re Gamer-guy-Jack from TMJ! That’s why I know your name—Nick told me someone was coming to take over for Keith but I didn’t make the connection between you and him. “

You know Nick Scott?”

Sorry.” Maya laughed. “Let me try the introductions again. Jack, this is Jayne Scott, Nick’s wife, and if he’s doing the work, you’ll have no worries about staying on track.”

Good, because the lease we have right now is up in mid-November, so we’re already pushing our luck.”

Nick said you work out of Seattle,” Jayne said. “So are you going to stay when the new place is finished or are you just here on loan?”

Just a loaner,” he said. “Until Keith’s back.”

And are you staying with”—Jayne stopped and winked at Ellie—“He Who Must Not Be Named?”

No.” Jack blinked past Jayne and shrugged. “That hotel by the golf course gave us a good deal, so—”

Us?” Ellie asked. It was only one word, but it covered a lot of territory.

He turned his grin to Maya. “Me and Pete.”

Pete’s with you?” Maya cried. She’d never considered herself much of a dog person until she’d met Pete. “How is he?”

Still the same; big, brown, and a little bit pathetic.” Jack pulled out his phone and flashed a couple pictures of his chocolate Lab, starting with the one of Pete as a chubby nine-week-old puppy and ending with a recent one of him with two tennis balls stuffed in his mouth and his right ear flopped back.

How old is he now?” Maya asked. “Eight?”

Coming up next month, yeah.”

They were all still gushing over him as Ellie continued to pepper Jack with questions.

You married?”

No.”

Ever been married?”

Sorry, Jack,” Maya muttered. “Ellie, the Queen of Tact, doesn’t believe in beating around the bush.”

It’s fine.” He chuckled but Maya knew it was forced. “And no, never been married.”

Got any kids?”

Nope. It’s just Pete and me,” Jack said, tucking his phone away again. “I told you, boring.”

I don’t believe that,” Ellie said, watching him through narrowed eyes. “You don’t look like the boring type.”

There was never a day that went by when Maya didn’t know how lucky she was to have these three women as her best friends, but nights like this made her appreciate them even more. Following Ellie’s lead, they spent the next hour or so dragging all kinds of stories from him; everything from him being the tall, skinny awkward kid at school, to the craziest date he’d ever been on—the girl showed up in a leopard-print catsuit complete with tail and ears—to the time he literally ran into Thor at Comic-Con.

He’s a big sonuvabitch, that one.”

Looked in a mirror lately, Jack?” Regan laughed.

Yeah, easy for you guys to laugh about it,” he said. “But I wound up flat on my ass surrounded by security.”

Way to make an impression,” Maya snickered. “There goes any chance you might have had to get him to voice one of your games.”

A slow smirk spread across Regan’s face as she sat up straighter. “If it’s voices you need, why don’t you get Maya to hit up her new boyfriend, Griffin Carr?”

Griffin Carr?” Jack’s eyes bulged. “You mean . . . no . . . Griffin Carr? Like just-started-filming-the-next-Bond-movie Griffin Carr?”

One and the same.f” Ellie nodded, but Maya was already shaking her head.

He’s not my boyfriend. We’ve been out a few times, that’s it.” Okay, it was a little more than that now, but she couldn’t exactly tell the girls about it with Jack sitting there staring at her.

Sorry, Snip, you’re going to have to give me more than that. Griffin Carr?

It took her a few seconds to say anything else, partly because she was in mid-sip of her wine and partly because she was dragging that sip out as long as she could.

He’s been filming up here a lot in the last few years and likes to use Regan as his stylist.”

And?”

And a few months back, he and Regan made a deal where she’d be his stylist for an indie film he was doing if he’d agree to play on our slo-pitch team in a charity game, which is where he and Maya met.”

Jack nodded. “Right, I remember Will saying something about the game.”

Ellie nodded pointedly. “I’m guessing Dickhead neglected to mention that Griffin was all over Maya like white on rice.”

But she was playing hard to get,” Regan added. “Because she thought he was a sleazeball.”

And I already admitted I was wrong,” Maya said, forcing a dry laugh. “And that I shouldn’t believe everything I hear or read about him, so can we get over that, please?”

Regan popped a couple peanuts in her mouth and grinned. “I’m telling you, Jack, that game was one of the best things I’ve ever witnessed; we had Griffin putting the moves on Maya for all the world to see, and we had Dickhead and his skank with front row seats to the show. It was beautiful.”

Maya was sure Will’s scowl that day had little to do with the fact that Griffin was hitting on her and more to do with the fact that Stella spent the entire game the same way every other woman—and a few of the men—did: drooling over Griffin and doing whatever she could to get his attention.

A better person might not have found any satisfaction in Will’s misery, but Maya never claimed to be that good of a person.

This is book # 4 in the Friends First series. It can be read as a standalone. I recommend reading any series book in order for reader enjoyment and understanding.

Jack and Maya met the same night she met her ex-husband. Their relationship, if you can call it that, is a very complicated one. He was a foster child taken in by her ex-husbands family. She was someone he wanted but couldn’t have.

Now 2 years have gone by and he sees her – and that’s it. He has sacrificed for what? He admits to himself he needs her in his life. She calms him. Makes him a better, happier person. He has missed even being her friend.

Maya knows he is only in town temporarily. There is so much going on and her ex and his family are to blame for much of it. Can she forgive? She knows she will never forget.

This is such an amazing story. This whole series is made up of characters that make you root for them and their friendships. I loved the character development that was easy to see from book to book as well.

Extreme Risk #3

Do nice guys always finish last? In the new Extreme Risk novel from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tracy Wolff, a burnt-out underdog and a vulnerable tomboy defy the pressure to be perfect and go after what they really want.

Bighearted and easygoing, Luc Jennings is falling behind in a family of serious overachievers. While he may be decent enough at snowboarding to turn pro and rack up some sponsors, he’s never topped any podiums—unlike his friends Z, Ash, and Cam. Luc’s always been head over heels for Cam Bradley, but she’s never seen him as anything more than a friend. Now, after years of coming in second, Luc can’t take it anymore—especially if it means watching Cam chase another guy.

Cam hangs out almost exclusively with dudes, and that’s fine by her. She’d much rather be shredding at the Olympics than primping in the mirror. Cam’s wildest dreams have a way of coming true—except when it comes to getting her longtime crush and best friend, Z Michaels, to notice her. Then her mother suddenly shows up after being gone for, like, ever, and Cam’s whole world comes crashing down. Desperate for a place to lay low, she turns to the one person who’s always had her back.

Try as he might to move on, Luc could never leave Cam hanging. He lets her crash at his place—and it isn’t long before she winds up in his bed. With Cam running scared and her icy facade starting to melt at last, Luc’s determined to finally win the only prize that matters.

Excerpt 4

Fuck, she looks good. And fuck, it’s hard to keep my eyes off of her.

Like the other girls, Cam’s dressed in a bikini. But unlike Ophelia and Tansy, hers isn’t two little scraps of cloth held together with strings. No, in typical Cam fashion, she’s wearing a simple black suit that’s much more about athletic function than hotness factor. And still she looks fucking fantastic in it. All long, lean lines and tanned, gorgeous skin, with legs that go on forever—legs that seem specifically designed to drape themselves over a guy’s shoulders as he thrusts into her again and again and again.

Not that I care. Not anymore. I may have been in love with her once upon a time, but after the disastrous one night we spent together, I am totally over it.

Completely.

Absolutely.

Or at least that’s what I tell myself once a day. More if I’m actually around her for any length of time.

Fake it till you make it. That’s the motto I’m living by these days.

Dude, where the hell did that come from?” Ash demands as he sits down on the edge of the boat and fastens himself into his wakeboard.

I shrug. The last thing I want to say is the truth, which is I’m sick to fucking death of always coming in last. I’m a good athlete, a really good athlete, and in any other group, that would probably count for something. With my three best friends—all of whom top snowboarding podiums on a regular basis—not so much.

It’s not that I’m jealous of them, because I’m not. They’ve each had some really bad, really heavy shit to deal with through the years and I figure their mad skills are kind of the universe’s way of evening up the scales. Still, it’d be nice to not always feel like the loser. Like the ballast they cart around, not because I contribute anything to the team but out of loyalty.

That was totally wicked,” Ophelia tells me as I move to the front of the boat. “I’ve never seen anything like that before.”

Thanks.” I shoot her a smile, even knowing she’s just trying to make me feel better.

Uh, sure you have,” Z tells her even as he grins at me. “I do believe you’ve seen me work a half-pipe before.”

She rolls her eyes. “Of course, baby. And you have a bigger penis, too.”

Hey, now!” I squawk in mock affront. “That seems a little judgmental considering you haven’t seen the goods.”

You want to fix that?” she asks, eyebrows raised. But she’s been Z’s girl long enough for me to know she’s all bravado.

I reach for the waist of my board shorts. “Sure—”

No!” Z stands up abruptly, grabbing onto Ophelia as he does. “No, she doesn’t.” He’s picking her up in his arms and striding over to the side of the boat while I slip into the vacated driver’s spot.

You want to take a go?” I shout to him, but instead of answering he just steps onto the bench seat at the back of the boat.

Don’t you dare,” Ophelia shrieks. “I mean it, Z! You better no—” Her shriek is abruptly cut off when he jumps in the water, still carrying her.

I glance at Ash, who’s just shaking his head like when’s she going to learn? I know exactly what he means. Z pretty much dares everything and telling him not to do something is a surefire way to get him to do just that.

Logan and Cam are close to hysterical they’re laughing so hard, and when I glance in the water at Ophelia—who’s still so shocked that her mouth is opening and closing like a guppy’s—I can’t blame them. Especially when she finally seems to come around and starts smacking at Z, who’s laughing just as hard as the other two.

Tansy keeps glancing back and forth between the lot of them like they’ve all escaped from an insane asylum. But when Ophelia finally stops beating up on Z, Tansy leans over the side of the boat and calls,

“Here. I’ll help you up.”

Ash heads toward her—to help, I’m sure. Tansy isn’t close to being as fragile as she was when we first met her a couple months ago and she was fresh off of chemo, but Ash still has a tendency to treat her like glass. But before he can get there, Ophelia grabs her hand and yanks.

Tansy’s only protest is an astonished little squeak, and then she’s tumbling headfirst into the lake. Ash makes a dive for her, misses, and falls in after her.

By now Cam and Logan are laughing so hard they’re practically crying, and I’m not far behind.

Especially when Ophelia leaps on Z’s back and starts trying to drown him.

It’s second nature for me to look at Cam, to try to catch her eye and share the joke. At least until I remember that we don’t do that anymore. We don’t do anything anymore. So, I look at Logan instead, and that’s when I see it. The wistfulness. The envy. He won’t say it—the kid never says it—but I know he misses being able to jump out of the boat without a second thought. Misses being able to just do what he wants instead of having to plan every little thing out beforehand. After running it by Ash, who we’ve already established has major protective issues when it comes to the people he loves.

The boat is stopped, but I turn the ignition all the way off before I climb out of the pilot’s seat and head toward him. I pick him up easily—he may be long but he’s also super lanky—throw him over my shoulder. “Hold your breath,” I warn, then jump off the back of the boat without waiting to see if he follows directions. It’s exactly what I would have done a year ago, before the accident, and though there’s a tiny part of me that questions if it’s really okay, I tamp it down. Except for the paralysis, he’s all healed up. In as good a shape as any other fourteen-year-old boy. So to hell with it. He deserves to have fun, too.

I hold onto him until we surface, making sure he can tread water using just his arms—which he does just fine despite the fact that he’s still laughing. Only then do I glance at Ash, expecting him to bitch me out. Which is fine. I know how he is and I’m prepared for it. Except when our eyes meet, his are filled with something that looks an awful lot like—shame.

I shoot him a questioning look, but he just shakes his head. Mouths “thank you,” then moves over to dunk his brother a second time.

Cam joins us after a couple minutes, and even though I know it’s totally masochistic, I can’t stop myself from swimming up behind her. From putting my hands on the silky skin of her waist.

Hey, don’t—” she says with a laugh, twisting around to see which one of us is going to dunk her.

But dunking her is the last thing on my mind—even if I did start out with that as a vague plan—and when her surprised eyes meet mine, I don’t push down until she’s underwater. I don’t pull away, though, either. Instead I stay right where I am, hands lightly resting above her hips, thumbs gently stroking at the hard, flat plane of her abs.

Her green eyes are huge as she watches me watching her, and then she smiles a little tremulously. “Hi.” It’s almost a whisper.

Hi,” I say back. It’s the first word I’ve said to her in weeks that hasn’t at least been partially for show.

Cam Bradley and Luc Jennings have been best friends forever. They have an amazing circle of friends that has been together since they were small. Though no one is as close as Luc and Cam.

Luc, has also been in love with Cam for many years. He has hoped and prayed for just a chance to be with her. Then one night…. he gets his wish and his heart broken all at once.

Cam, has been worrying about how to save her friendship with this amazing man. Wondering how to fix the shreds that are left. They don’t even look at one another and they are in the same room. What is a woman to do?

Luc and Cam solve everything by kissing and making up the old fashioned way. Is it really that easy? They both come into this with angst and pain and even tormented pasts.

There are so many surprises – beware readers! You will laugh, you will cry and yes, even root for this couple! I have not been so pleasantly surprised by an author and book in some time. I always recommend reading a series in order – and I had not done that with this story. I hope to own the other books in the Extreme Risk series before this review goes public. This was one book I could not even blink while reading! So good I am not sure how to put it in words!

Synopsis:

He’s never met a challenge he couldn’t take…

Alexis Yeung did everything right….only to watch everything go horribly, horribly wrong. Broken and angry, Alexis high-tails it to Europe, determined to face the world on her own terms and without consequence. Which includes a mind-blowing night with a sexy, scarred stranger.

Except, embittered former pararescuer Luke Jackson isn’t exactly a stranger. He’s supposed to keep an eye on Alexis without her knowing. Ending up in bed together was definitely not the plan. Now he’s chasing her (admittedly hot) ass across Europe, a game of cat and mouse that always ends with the two of them tangled up in the sheets.

Something in their scarred, damaged souls calls to each other. And God help them, the sex in unbelievably hot. But if Alexis discovers who Luke really is, he’ll lose the one thing that makes him feel whole…

See where it all began with book 1 of the Out of Uniform series, In Bed with Mr. Wrong.

Excerpt:

The elevator ride passed in a blur, and he towed her down the hall to his room. The door barely shut behind him when he pinned her against it. “You’re mine now.”

Even as she wrapped her legs around his waist, she shook her head. “For tonight.”

He wanted to rail against the limitation, but Luke was more concerned with getting her out of her clothes. With one punishing kiss, he moved to the bed and dropped her on it. Before she had a chance to right herself, he yanked off her boots and tossed them behind him. “Unbutton your pants.”

“Bossy, bossy.” But her voice was breathy, and her hands shook as she followed his order. He helped her get them over her hips and then peeled them off her legs, leaving her in only her white knit top and a thong with a shamrock that read Lucky You.

“Lucky me, indeed.”

“Don’t let it go to your head.” She sat up, and he stripped off her shirt and bra. The panties could stay…for now. Alexis propped herself on her elbows and raised one slim leg to poke him in the chest with her foot when he started to crawl onto the bed. “Your turn.”

All he could see was her smooth skin and dark pink nipples. When she poked him again, he finally focused on her face. “What?”

“Your clothes. Get rid of them.”

For the first time since he’d kissed her, Luke paused. He hadn’t been with anyone in a long time. Hell, he could pinpoint the exact time because the woman had taken one look at his mangled knee and hightailed it out of the room. And that was after she cringed at the sight of his scars elsewhere. He couldn’t stand the thought of Alexis flinching from him. “Not yet.”

First, he was going to drive her so far out of her mind with pleasure that she wouldn’t have the ability to remember her own name, let alone worry about his damaged body.

GUEST POST/Getting to know Author, Katee Robert:

When I write, book and character ideas come from all sorts of random places. It could be a song or a news article or some nonfiction book I’ve read (I do that a lot these days). Often, it’s some strange alchemy of all of those, with a dash of some random thing I’ve seen on a sign or a TV show or… You see what I mean? There’s no one thing to pinpoint.

HIS LOVER TO PROTECT was the same weird combination of things that I probably couldn’t even tell you where they came from. But the one thing I KNOW inspired a good portion of this book is the time I lived in Germany. I spent four years there right out of high school, and being a hop, skip, and a jump from a dozen European countries really changes your worldview. It was during those travels that I came into contact with countless people backpacking across Europe.

If you’re not familiar with it, basically these people travel in pairs or small groups, live out of their backpacks, and stay in hostels. They often take advantage of Europe’s train system to get from place to place and sightsee.

One, in particular, gave me a lot of inspiration when it came to Alexis. I met this girl in Spain in a hostel and she was traveling alone. Honest to God, she looked about sixteen and was a total sweetheart. Naturally, I feared for her life. So our group kind of adopted her for the weekend and in the midst of shenanigans, she just causally mentioned that if a threat had materialized, she had both a switchblade and pepper spray.

I didn’t consciously draw from her when I started Alexis on her lone journey through Europe, but I’d be lying if I said this girl wasn’t there in the back of my mind. Just like her, Alexis is more than capable of taking care of herself. She doesn’t NEED a protector. But, much like my first reaction to hearing this girl was traveling alone, her friends and sister are SURE she’s going to be murdered or something equally awful.

It’s not always the case that I can point to a particular thing and say “Yes, THAT inspired a portion of this book!” but it’s certainly what happened here. So when you read about Alexis, know that there’s a woman out there who gave me the idea to have her carrying pepper spray for protection. Sorry, Luke!

Perfect for fans of Monica Murphy and Cecy Robson, Sidney Halston’s scorching new MMA romance proves there are no holds barred when it comes to seduction.

Growing up an Army brat, Violet Channing could never meet her dad’s high expectations. But in the eyes of her best friend, she could do no wrong. He even insisted that he should be her first kiss. Now Cain Sorensen is all grown up, hardened by years in special ops and always looking for a good fight. Tall, with striking blue eyes and impossibly blond hair, he’s a modern-day Viking warrior. Of course, Violet’s all grown up, too, and she’s ready to surrender to his every command.

Cain knows he’s bad for Violet. His work is dangerous, and his hobbies are downright deadly. As a private mercenary and a mixed martial arts fighter, he could never let such an innocent soul into his world. And yet his most grueling combat training is no match for Violet’s killer curves, hot touch, and suggestive glances. Now all of Cain’s most explosive fantasies are coming true—but once they cross the line between friends and lovers, there’s no turning back.

Excerpt 4

Cain hadn’t left Tarpon Springs, Florida, for this long since he’d moved there four years ago. He’d grown up on an army base, then served in the military for eight years before retiring, and this was the first time in his adult life that he felt he had a home. After one too many fights in school, his father had forced him to enlist, to follow the path of his father and his father’s father. The Sorensons bred military men. Then his second tour ended and he didn’t want the army to be a career, so he’d gotten out, much to his father’s dismay. Right now, if someone asked him why he had signed up with IMC, International Military Coalition, as a contractor, he couldn’t answer. At the time he’d only seen the dollar bills. The pay was amazing compared to what the U.S. government had paid him for risking his life for years as an Army Ranger, and signing up to make four times the amount with a private company seemed like the obvious next step.

As soon as Cain walked out of the airport, he hailed a taxi to take him straight to the Pier. It was Friday night, and his friends would undoubtedly be there. Plus, he needed a beer . . . or seven. On the ride over, he received a text from Iggy Mitchell, another mercenary he’d met overseas. Iggy had lost a leg in a tour in Iraq a couple of years ago, and when he wasn’t on a mission for IMC, he worked as a consultant in Tampa specializing in testing firewalls and other online security threats. In other words, he was a professional hacker. The two men had quickly hit it off and sparred together during their free time. Iggy’s hard work and zest for life made the prosthetic leg a nonissue. One evening Iggy had mentioned how he loved to gamble on a series of underground fights put together by some Russians. The text Cain was currently reading was the address of a fight happening in a few days. But Cain wasn’t a gambling man, so he wasn’t interested. He slid the phone back into his pocket and settled in for the forty-five-minute cab ride to the Pier.

It was raining when the taxi arrived. He swung the big duffle bag over his shoulder and looked around the familiar town before he reached to open the front door. A hand on his shoulder stopped him. “Hey, man! You’re back.” It was Tony, his friend, sparring partner, and professional mixed martial arts fighter, whom he had helped train a few months ago.

Cain, honey, so glad you’re home!” Tony’s wife, Francesca, threw her arms around him for a big hug. He wasn’t big on contact, and he awkwardly put his arm around her waist and patted her back.

Come on, let’s go inside,” Tony said. “The rest of the guys are on their way. Do they know you’re back? Where were you, by the way?”

Libya. Just arrived. No one knows,” Cain replied.

Francesca hissed. “Libya. Fuck. That’s not safe.”

No.”

Still quite the conversationalist, I see.” Tony patted Cain roughly on the back.

Leave the man alone. He just came back from hell, he doesn’t need that attitude tonight. By the way . . .” She poked Cain in the shoulder. “Don’t you ever fuckin’ leave again without letting us know you’re leaving or where you’re going. We were worried.” She reached in and hugged him again.

Violet?” Cain asked when she released him.

What about her?” Francesca asked.

She okay?”

Ask her yourself—she’s here.”

Cain tried not to smile, but his lips seemed to curl upward all on their own. He hadn’t seen Violet for years until a few months ago, when she’d moved to town. He was happy he’d get to see her tonight. As had always been the case, her warm smile was the perfect salve for his shitty mood.

Cain put a hand on Francesca’s upper arm. “Wait—before we go in, are there any fights coming up? Sign me up for something. Soon.” Francesca was co-owner of Worth the Fight Academy, a mixed martial arts gym that trained professional cage fighters, which was what Cain had been doing before heading off a few months earlier.

You just got into town. You need to take a breather. We can talk about it when you’re settled back.”

I’m settled. I’m back. Sign me up.”

Fine. But tonight, relax, at least for a few hours. Come have a drink and say hello to everyone. We’ll find you something tomorrow,” Francesca said.

As soon as he opened the door to the familiar laughter and smell he started to feel better.

REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW REVIEW

Violet and Cain have known each other since they were children.  They have been best friends this whole time, along with Violet’s late fiance.  They are attracted to one another and they both fight it to preserve the friendship they have.  When it comes to family, they are all each other has left.

Cain has known he was in love with her since they were teenagers.  He gave her the very first kiss from a boy she ever had.  Then he tore her heart open with a letter that nearly killed her.

Violet started seeing their other best friend instead.  He eventually asked her to marry him and all of it was witnessed by Cain.  How much pain would he have to endure?  When her fiance died, she turned even more to Cain – only to see a cold shoulder.

Cain blames himself for her fiance’s death.  The problem he has now, besides guilt, is that he is love with a woman who will never want him.  But she turns to him for help anyway.

Together they have a strong friendship when they work at it.  Violet is feeling alone and unwanted.  Cain has so much to tell her that he keeps to himself.  They must learn to fight for what matters before its too late.  I found this to be a genuine romance book!  It has everything for you.  I give it a 4/5 Kitty’s Paws UP!

Getting to know the AUTHOR: Interview with Sidney Halston

Kitty’s Q&A QUESTIONS:

1.  You have been writing about a lot of hunky MMA fighters.  Are you a fan of the MMA?  Do you have a favorite that you follow?

Admittedly, I am not a die hard fan but I do watch it and I do have a favorite. My husband is a fighter, so I watch him, which is how I got into the sport in the first place. I follow Randy Couture on Twitter/Facebook long before he was on The Expendables movie. I used to love watching him fight. He’s older now, but to me he is still the best  (and oh so sexy). My husband doesn’t miss a single bout, so I do watch and lately I’ve been watching some of the women. I love Rhonda Rousy and she was the inspiration behind Francesca, the heroine in Below the Belt (Worth the Fight #4).

2.  Our readers love getting to know authors.  Will you share with us a secret about yourself that no one knows?

Hmmm….I’m so open I feel everyone knows everything about me. I’m a lawyer. Is that a secret? Oh, I know. I’m terrified of flying. Things shouldn’t be hanging willy nilly from the sky!

3.  Do you listen to music as you write?  Is there a playlist for any of your books you would care to share with your readers?

I do listen to music when I write. In fact, I can’t write without music blaring. I don’t necessarily have a playlist. I am one of those people that when I like something, I hear it (or watch it, or read it) over and over again. I listened to Sam Hunt, “Take Your Time” and Hozier “Take Me to Church” a zillion times while writing LAID OUT.

4. You’re an admitted reader.  Do you have a favorite book of all time?  What genres do you like to read in your spare time? (Assuming, you have any…)

I love to read! My favorite non-romance book is The Count of Monte Cristo. I think I’ve read it ten times. My favorite romance book used to be Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon. He was my favorite romance author forever. But, since discovering Kristen Ashley, I may have to switch my answer to Sweet Dreams. One word: Tate!

5. Your books are always so good and filled with strong characters, even female.  Is there anything you look to for inspiration that influences this?

Oh thank you, that’s a great compliment! Like I said, Rhonda Rousey was my inspiration for Francesca. In general, I’m surrounded by strong women—my mom, friends, etc. I wouldn’t know how to write a weak woman, I think.

6. Silly question just to please the readers.  If you could be any animal for a day – what would you be?

Ha! Okay, let me think about this. A dude lion. He sits around all day with his long mane doing nothing but screwing and eating. I have one or two people I’d like to literally bite their head off and I think I could get away with it if I were a lion, right? Seems like a good life. All those lioness fighting for his attention as he watches from his throne. Nice question!

Thank you so much for having me. It was lots of fun. Xoxo

Sidney Halston lives her life by one simple rule: “Just do it.” And that’s exactly what she did. At the age of thirty, having never written anything other than a legal brief, she picked up a pen for the first time to pursue her dream of becoming an author. That first stroke sealed the deal, and she fell in love with writing. Halston lives in South Florida with her husband and children.

Gamers # 2

Megan Erickson

Releasing Aug 11th, 2015

Grant Osprey just had the hottest sex of his life. Sure, they were both in costume, and yes, it was anonymous, but he never expected her to bolt in the middle of the night without so much as a good bye, let alone exchanging numbers. Or names. All he’s left with are her panties and some seriously X-rated memories…until he meets his business partner’s little sister.

Only Chloe Talley isn’t the bold, sexy vixen he remembers. And she wants nothing to do with him.

Cosplay is Chloe’s only chance to leave her boring, socially awkward world behind. To forget that she’s failing at life and can’t be with anyone, let alone a single-father like Grant. But the raw hunger between them is undeniable. With him, she can be a misbehaving maid. A sexy call girl for hire. Each scene pushes Chloe beyond her strict boundaries, until Grant demands the one character she can’t play.

Herself.

Excerpt #3:

He peered through the peephole. Chloe was standing on the front porch, large sunglasses over her eyes—even though it was nighttime—and wearing a belted trench coat.

When he opened the door, he gazed down to her bare legs and sky-high black heels.

Mr. Osprey?” she asked, her lips a bright cherry red.

He leaned on the door and raised an eyebrow. “Yes.”

Her pink tongue slipped out, wetting her bottom lip.

My handler said you have hired my services for the night. I only accept cash.”

He nearly swallowed his tongue. So she wanted to play some Pretty Woman role, huh? He went from kinda hard to full mast.

We agreed on two grand and I get you until two in the morning.” He deliberately leered. “All of you. Every inch of you. However I want you. Suit you, Princess?”

The lapels of her trench coat quivered. “Suits me.”

Great.” He stepped back and gestured inside. “Come in, please.”

She brushed past him and he smelled strawberries. He shut and locked the door, then turned around to face Chloe.

She’d taken her sunglasses off and her hands were on her untied belt. In one practiced move, she flung open the edges of the coat and rolled her shoulders so the khaki material fluttered to the ground at her feet.

Grant had to shoot out a hand to brace himself on the wall because he suddenly had vertigo. The physical parts of Chloe he loved the most were encased in lavender lace—a bra that didn’t cover much, because he could see her hardened nipples poking through.

Her thong didn’t cover much except for a small triangle scrap, hiding her pussy—which he knew she shaved bare—from his view.

Jesus, all that skin, that delicious lace, all for him.

She watched him with those green eyes, a sexy smirk to her mouth. She slowly twisted, so that her ankles were crossed, and showed him her back, she looked at him through her lashes over her shoulder. Only a string ran along the top of her ass and between her crease.

He was hard in his jeans, ridiculously so, and he hadn’t even touched her yet. Hadn’t yet taken that mouth or plunged his fingers in that tight heat. He was going to do all of that and then some.

He stepped toward her. “Hands on the wall. Ass out.”

Chloe Talley hooks up with Grant Osprey at Comic-Con while in character.  Their Cosplay turns HOT and they decide to extinguish the flames the old fashioned way.  Only he turns up the heat.

Later, Grant meets her in a restaurant while dining with her brother.  And again later.  They keep meeting like this and he might start to get ideas.  If he didn’t already have them, that is.

Chloe, and her family, have been through a lot since losing her sister.  It has been 2 years and she seems to be the family scapegoat for feelings of all kinds.  Can she be selfish and take for her own needs?

Grant just cannot stop thinking of the beautiful and smashing Chloe.  It is starting to effect his work too.  He wants to see her out of Cosplay and in a real life role.  Her brother wants to kill him if he so much as hints at it.  What’s a guy to do?

This story has so much to offer the reader!  It is full of nerdy sayings, angst, humor, satire, lust, and so much more.  I found the book was not one I could put down.  The characters are so achingly refreshing in a book that has so many surprises and smoking hot sexy times.  I give this story a 5/5 Kitty’s Paws UP!
