Book Blitz w/Review – Kind Of Famous

Kind of Famous
Mary Ann Marlowe
Publication date: April 7th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Layla Beckett has a secret. For the past ten years, she’s run the most trafficked fan site on the Internet for her favorite band—under an alias, naturally. When she lands a job at the prestigious New York City music magazine The Rock Paper, she’s suddenly thrust into the world she’s only observed from the cheap seats. Now that she’s brushing elbows with sexy guitarists and hot frontmen, she wants to play it cool and keep her superfan status on the down low. Although she’s dying to gush on her forum, posting her insider adventures online could expose her real-life identity and blow her cover.

And that’s all before one of those sexy musicians becomes a fan of her.

From the minute he meets Layla, Shane Morgan’s heart beats a heavy metal rhythm, but his head is full of doubt. Since only the most hardcore fans could pick the drummer out of a lineup, he’s resigned to groupies using him to get closer to the more famous guitarists. But he doesn’t want to be Layla’s passthrough.

As Layla gets to know the real people behind the music, she’s drawn to the less-than-flashy drummer’s sweet charms, fascinating mind, and banging hot body, but she worries about his insecurities. She needs to convince Shane she’s moved beyond fandom before he discovers her online history and loses all faith in her intentions.

But the Internet is forever, and secrets have a way of getting out.

EXCERPT:

The moon shone bright, but Shane’s eyes remained dark as the deepest ocean. He blinked twice and ran his thumb down my cheek to my chin. I confess that I’d had some illicit fantasies about the guys in the band, but I’d never felt the one-two punch to the gut that I got when his hand slid around the back of my neck and he pulled me forward to press his lips against mine.

He drew back, slowly enough that his lips continued to touch mine for a lingering moment, and I opened my eyes before he did. He looked like he’d tasted ice cream for the first time and wanted to savor it. My mind reeled with questions, and I had this crazy thought that I wished he were more famous so I’d have read something about him on the Internet before, so I’d know who he was and what I might be getting myself into.

If he were like Adam, I’d know to grab hold of him and never let go. If he were like Noah,

I wouldn’t want to give him the time of day.

But those lips.

A tiny smile lit his face. “Should I apologize again?”

With that, I threw caution to the wind and twisted both hands into his T-shirt. He laughed when I pulled him back into a less hesitant kiss, but his laughter stopped when my tongue brushed his, and he spun us around so he could press me up against the metal door behind us.

It had been a long time since I’d been physical with a man. Way too long.

Shane’s lips teased mine, and I felt like I’d lived in a desert my whole life, never knowing that water existed. Suddenly I’d fallen into a deep pool. It might turn out to be an oasis, or I might drown, and I didn’t care. My fingers traced his cheek, then brushed his neck, and his body responded in shivers. He lifted the edge of my shirt and explored my lower back, creeping up my spine until he reached my bra.

I’d lost track of where we were. Everything was him. His mouth on mine. His hands on me. His skin. His . . . I gasped. He pressed harder into me, and I ground back, need flaring inside me.

He took the first step away. “Layla.” The fact that his voice came out ragged and breathless only made me want to tear his shirt off and spend the next ten hours licking every inch of him while he said my name.

Kind of FamousKind of Famous by Mary Ann Marlowe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book #3, in Flirting With Fame series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Layla is starting work at a new job in New York. She wants to do well but it worried if anyone finds out about her past with her blog, it will be all over. Secrets make it hard to move forward.

Shane goes after what he wants – and he wants Layla. Right from the beginning they share a spark and a sense of humor. Can they make a future with the past staying hidden? If it all comes out will they get past the deceit of a withheld story?

The music business is treacherous at best, but the characters in this series are HOT and they know it. This story was full of sizzle and sexy. I loved that there was room for bonds of friendship to form under high pressure conditions too. The characters were complicated and made for an interesting read.

*******

My insides churn in excitement at the thought of seeing Huck again. Last week if you’d have told me that either Huck Wiley was going to come to town or I was going to have tea with a full-blown yeti, my money would have been on the Sasquatch.

I curl up in a hand-carved gentleman’s chair that was original to this house, and stare around the ornate room. I swear I can see the ghosts of Lexi’s and my combined family members bustling around like they did back in the day. I wonder what life would have been like for me if I’d been around at that time. I probably would have been married off at fifteen to some old potbellied gentleman farmer or some such. A shudder of imagination-fed revulsion overtakes me. Of course, if the gentleman farmer looked like Huck, I would have set a world record running to the church.

Lexi pulls me out of my reverie when she comes in with a tray of dishes, silverware, and napkins. She puts them on the coffee table in front of me. “I think your parents should hire Shuckie to cater Emmie and Zach’s wedding. The man is magic.”

“That’ll be my wedding, if I ever have one,” I tell her.

“You don’t want a big deal down at the club?”

“No, ma’am,” I tell her. “I want to party on the docks with lots of loud music and twinkle lights that run for miles. I want to eat fried fish and hush puppies, drink beer, and dance until my feet fall off.”

“I want to be invited to that wedding. It sounds like the event of the century,” a deep voice says. I turn to follow the sound; I hadn’t heard Huck walk in. I stare right at him and discover he’s his stunning bad-boy self. If he were a painting I’d title it “Rock Star in Repose.” He’s wearing a pair of his signature worn jeans and a tight t-shirt. This time it’s advertising an old Pearl Jam tour. He doesn’t look the least bit cold.

“The night I get hitched, you’ll probably be selling out Yankee Stadium and dodging a bushel load of panties being thrown your way by adoring fans,” I reply, totally dismissing his request to come to my wedding.

Huck laughs as though I’ve caught him totally off guard by my somewhat saucy comment. “If I played Yankee Stadium that might just happen, but Madison Square Garden isn’t quite that wild. Although a thong or two does make it my way,” he assures me.

“Lucky you.” The thought of throwing my unmentionables at him, and him picking them up, cause my insides to liquefy into a pool of raw desire.

“Have you ever been to one of my concerts, Amelia?” he wants to know.

I don’t answer right away. Instead, I take time to clear my throat and fill my plate with an assortment of yummy food. I wait so long to address his question that I figure he’s forgotten he even asked it. I suggest, “You’d best hurry up and get some of this or you’re gonna be out of luck. I don’t bother eating like a lady when Shuckie’s the chef.”

Huck grabs a plate before repeating, “Have you ever been to one of my concerts, Amelia?”

“I have not,” I tell him.

“I’m offended,” he teases gruffly. “Why not?”

“Because I have every album you’ve ever released and I don’t see the need to get all gussied up just to drive three hours to a venue only to be subjected to hordes of people screaming your name so loud that I can’t actually hear what you’re singing.” Then, instead of leaving well enough alone, I add, “I’d rather curl up on my couch, put on your album, and have you all to myself.”

Good lord, why did I say that?

The Plan (The Creek Water Series Book 3)The Plan by Whitney Dineen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book #3, in The Creek Water series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this laugh-out-loud series in order intended.

Amelia has gotten to a good place. She no longer freaks out. She listens to good music. Then she gets a visitor who performs said music in her shop. Tongue tied does not really describe what happens.

Huck is attracted to the honesty Amelia gives him right away. Never did he think he would find someone who understands hi daughter, nor did he think he would want her so badly. How can he convince her that the future is worth leaping toward?

I really loved this story. I was surprised at all the funny moments. The banter is wonderful. The family interactions are not only easy to relate to, but they feel familiar. Taking a sensitive subject and approaching it this way with such humor, was just genius! I am certain this installment fits well into this series. I sure cannot wait for the next installment!

EXCERPT:

Elijah Davis finished polishing the shiny, new stainless-steel work tables in the
center of the kitchen and took off his apron. He turned in a slow circle and studied
the industrial-sized ovens, the commercial proofer, the chiller, the walk-in freezer,
the shelves holding trays, tins, pans, and racks, and the professional mixers sitting
on a counter with a critical eye.

A slow grin split his face. He’d finally done it.

The swing door opened. A young woman with short, pink and blue hair and
half a dozen piercings strolled in, a tired smile on her face.

“I think we’re ready,” Sam Harris said with a confident dip of her chin.

She joined Elijah and stared around the lovingly restored kitchen. The
butcher’s block they’d bought for a bargain at a garage sale a month ago had
come up beautifully after some sanding and took pride of place between the metal
tables in the middle of the room. They’d spent one weekend stripping decades of
greased-up paint from the cabinets and cupboards before whitewashing them and
applying thick coats of cream and duck egg blue. The colors matched the bakery’s
new facade and the shop’s gaily decorated interior.

La Petite Bouche Gourmande was officially opening for business tomorrow.

“Bet you’re excited,” Sam told Elijah with a grin, exposing a slightly crooked
tooth.

“So much so I don’t think I’m gonna sleep tonight,” Elijah admitted fervently.

“Well, I’d offer to help you with that, but you like dicks and I like pussies, so
our work affair is unfortunately doomed before it can even begin.”

Elijah chuckled at her deadpan expression.

It still surprised him how completely wrong his first impression of Sam had
been. When he’d first laid eyes on her on the day she came to interview for the
position of his bakery manager, he’d already resigned himself to hiring somebody
out of town for the job.

Although Twilight Falls wasn’t exactly famous for producing pâtissiers, he’d
hoped to at least find someone competent enough to handle a basic kitchen and a
cake shop.

Elijah’s heart had sunk when Sam had walked into the office above the
bakery and sat down on the other side of the desk, a faintly mutinous expression
on her flushed face. He’d told himself he would indulge her since she was the last
interviewee of the day and had nearly fallen out of his chair after she correctly told
him the steps required to make macarons five minutes later.

It was afterward that Sam told him she was so used to people assuming she
was unreliable because of her appearance that she normally went in with all guns
blazing.

Elijah had given her the job on the spot.

“It still feels strange, you know,” Sam mused. “When I first saw your ad, I
didn’t believe my eyes for a second. Why would a renowned pastry chef leave a
Michelin-star restaurant and a successful career in Paris to open a bakery in the
back end of nowhere?” A teasing light warmed her face. “And not just any pastry
chef, but a hot one, with a body like Adonis.”

Elijah pressed a hand to his heart with an expression of fake shock. “You
think I’m hot? And that I look like Adonis?”

Sam rolled her eyes. “I take it back. Your ego doesn’t need any more
inflating.”

They closed up shop a short while later.

“Be careful,” Elijah told Sam as she climbed on her moped.

She saluted and headed off in the night. Elijah watched her until she
disappeared and turned to gaze at the bakery’s facade. A melancholic feeling
swirled through him as he studied the freshly painted shop sign.

La Petite Bouche Gourmande had been one of his favorite children’s books.

His most vivid memories of his maternal, French grandmother were of her reading
it to him during the long summers his family spent in France when he was growing
up.

“Because I made a promise to someone very important to me,” Elijah said
quietly, finally answering the question Sam had asked him.

Elijah’s grandmother had come to Twilight Falls only once, when he was
fifteen. She had immediately fallen in love with the picturesque town, which was
as different from the sleepy French village she had spent most of her life in as
night was from day. It was during that trip that they’d spoken of his future and
Elijah had first told her his dreams of going to Paris to study to be a professional
pâtissier, a dream he had so far hidden from his own parents. His grandmother
had been quiet for some time as they strolled through the town. Then, she’d
stopped and pointed out a charming coffee shop.

“Like that,” she’d said in her heavily accented English. “You should come
back and open a bakery here just like that, in this beautiful place.” She’d gazed at
the forested valley draped in autumnal colors that surrounded Twilight Falls,
before beaming at him. “You will be happy here. I can feel it.”

She had planned to visit again but had fallen ill shortly after his seventeenth
birthday and passed away on the night Elijah and his mother arrived in France to
see her. They’d spent a couple of weeks after her funeral organizing her affairs
before returning to Twilight Falls with a box full of her personal items. Among them
had been the book she had read to Elijah when he was still a boy and the one
thing of hers he’d taken with him when he’d left for Paris a few years later.

It was close to eleven by the time Elijah got home. His parents were away
on their long-awaited world cruise and had given him the keys to their house while
he settled back into town and looked for his own place. He parked his vintage,
pea-green Citroën DS on the driveway at the end of the cul-de-sac where they’d

moved to and was climbing the steps to the front porch when a child’s faint cry
reached him.

Elijah turned and was surprised to see lights in the pretty, white clapboard
house across the way. His father had given him the impression the place was
empty. Not that it bothered Elijah to have neighbors. The properties on the estate
had generous plots and were mostly occupied by retired folks.

A shadow moved across a window on the second floor.

From the distance, Elijah made out the figure of a man rocking a little girl
with blonde hair in his arms. The man stopped and turned to look straight at him.

Elijah flushed at being caught staring. He realized belatedly that the guy
probably couldn’t see him where he stood in the dark. He twisted on his heels and
headed inside his parents’ house, curious as to who it was who’d moved in
opposite him.

Carter (Twilight Falls #2)Carter by A.M. Salinger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book #2 in the Twilight Falls series. This story can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and to understand the series better, I recommend reading this series in order.

Elijah hears sounds from his neighbors home that worry him. A child is crying and he does not know why. Does he do something? Stand by? This is a defining moment.

Carter has been hit with some of life’s true setbacks. When he and Elijah both have surprises from their past thrown at them – can they come together and make a future? What does it take to give someone your heart?

I could not stop reading this. Every page had more and more I needed to know. I loved all the very sexy times, and the sparks were flyin’! This one has it all heart, heat, and hurt. I was so pleased that this story gave me a little bit of it all. I am hopeful for the next installment of this series.

What’s meant to be will always find a way.

Perfection isn’t an illusion.
I met it, held it in my hands.
But then it slipped right through.

Perfection isn’t an illusion.
It’s elusive, cleverly evasive, and, in many ways, a horrible tease.

I’m not a man to be toyed with.
Quiet, thoughtful, and even sometimes careful,
but never someone to taunt.
Even the most controlled men have a breaking point.
I just met mine.

Why mess with perfection?

You don’t.

Unless perfection messes with you.

Mia is having a miserable year. Her mom is still pushing her to date the boy across the street. She hasn’t been on a real date in a long time. Maybe fake dating is the answer?

Jake has known Mia his whole life. Their moms are pushing them to be together because its what they want. Why isn’t anyone asking their kids what they have in mind? One kiss tears the whole plan apart……..

This was such a surprise read! These characters are wonderful and funny. The banter is top notch. I loved the parts where they were so in sync you could tell they knew one another forever. A total slow burn but a thrilling ride.

Book Blitz – Fluffy

Fluffy
Julia Kent
Publication date: April 30th 2019
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Romance

An all-new STANDALONE from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent

It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.

I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.

Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.

See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the term.

Until it was too late.

The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day.

The perfect job!

Staging homes means showing your best angle. The same principle applies in making a certain kind of movie. Turns out a “fluffer” doesn’t arrange decorative pillows on a couch.

They arrange other soft, round-ish objects.

The job isn’t hard. Er, I mean, it is — it’s about being hard. Or, well… helping other people to be hard.

Oh, man…

And that’s the other problem. A man. No, not one of the stars on the movie set. Will Lotham – my high school crush. The owner of the house where we’re filming. Illegally. In a vacation rental.

By the time the cops show up, what I thought was just a great house staging gig turned into a nightmare involving pictures of me with an undressed naked star, Will rescuing me from an arrest, and a humiliating lesson in my own naivete.

My job turned out to be so much harder than I expected. But you know what’s easier than I ever imagined?

Having all my dreams come true.

EXCERPT:

“Do you use the proper terms for everything, Mallory?” He makes an inarticulate sound as I peel the gauze off the cut, wiping gently. “You call your pretty place a vulva, right? And you use the word vagina.”

“’Pretty place’?”

He shrugs.

“And yes, I do. Vulva and vagina. And then there’s the clitoris,” I say primly.

“What’s that?”

“What’s what?”

“A clitoris. Never heard of it.”

I freeze and look down at him. Bright eyes meet mine. Is he serious?

“The clitoris is a nerve cluster above the opening to the vagina,” I begin, taking a breath to continue my impromptu human sexuality lecture, because when a man tells you they don’t know what a clitoris is, you educate them immediately.

For the sisterhood. All the women Will is going to sleep with from here on out will thank me later.

He starts to laugh. I’m so tempted to pour the small bottle of isopropyl alcohol directly on his wound, but I’m a kind, compassionate woman, so instead I dab it on with a swab.

“OW!” he bellows.

“Sorry.”

“You’re not sorry at all.”

“I’m sorry for your sex partners that you have no idea what a clitoris is, Will.”

“I know what it is. And my tongue knows how to find one. Blindfolded.”

“Why would you blindfold your tongue?”

Lawyer Juliet Jackson has come head to head with Sergeant Jesse Burns on numerous occasions in court. He is provoking. Pigheaded. Punch-worthy. They don’t get along. Not one little bit. The unfortunate fact he’s also her next-door neighbor brings her loathing off the charts. But when Juliet’s caught locked outside her home in nothing but a skimpy towel, she must swallow her pride and turn to Jesse for help. She doesn’t expect the explosive chemistry between them and can’t help but wonder if Jesse’s as demanding in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom.

His handsome face smirked before he averted his eyes and turned his head, but she could still see the profile of his face. His police uniform stretched across his chest. Wonder if that chest is chiseled underneath all those clothes.

Her ears burned hotter than chili sauce, spreading to her neck and chest. No point in putting on a mask this time, because there was no escaping this. Her fingers found the ends of the towel to cover her naked body, but her legs froze on the spot. “I got locked out of my house.”

“You got locked out of your house…naked?” A grin spread across his face, revealing the dimple on the bottom lip. She wanted to bite it but didn’t know if it was to hurt him or because of the temperature between her legs.

Scowling at his sarcasm, her fingers gripped the bricks of her house and she pulled herself up. “Yes. Why are you even here? Didn’t you have enough of me this morning?

“Never enough.”

Book Blitz – Right Girl Wrong Timing

Right Girl, Wrong Timing
Natalie Decker
(Offsides, #3)
Published by: Swoon Romance
Publication date: March 12th 2019
Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult

Adaline Frost’s life officially sucks. Now that her BFF has found her true love, Addy is constantly stuck being the third wheel. On top of that, she hasn’t started her junior project yet, so her advisor pairs her up with what could only be described as the “Reject Breakfast Club.” Instead of the weirdo and the troublemaker, Addy is forced to work with two stoners, a popular girl, and her crush, Austin Reed, the jock who broke her heart.

Austin Reed is sick of being labeled “dumb jock.” If he doesn’t get an A on this project, he can kiss his future goodbye. Austin thought he’d gotten lucky being partners with the very nerdy Adaline Frost, but boy was he wrong. Addy jumps down his throat about his being late and calls him names like “manwhore” on the daily. She has no idea Austin works before and after school in order to help his mom with the bills. Yeah, he’s made mistakes and has had lots of girlfriends, but he doesn’t need Adaline Frost to remind him of it every time he sees her.

Can Austin and Addy ever be a thing?

Right Girl Wrong Timing is book 3 in the Offsides series by Natalie Decker.

I’m about to go forward and talk to her, but I divert from that plan as soon as I see Greg stepping up next to her. He’s blocking her from my view with his douchiness.

She said they weren’t dating at the dance. That was weeks ago, so why the hell is he still hanging around her? Why are his fingers clasping wisps of her hair? He shouldn’t be touching her.

This feeling is not sitting right with me at all. Fact is, I’ve never been jealous. Have I been a little envious of the people who go here recently? Maybe. I mean, a few months ago I used to be just like them. New clothes, shoes, going to parties, not having a care in the world. Then my mom lost her awesome job at the hospital due to cuts, Dad left, and shit just went downhill. Now, I have to make sure my mom and I don’t get kicked out of the dump we live in or have anything shut off because of the lack of funds. I’ve never been jealous of a guy dating a girl I was interested in, though. Until Adaline, and I swear this is going to be a problem. It’s already cost me my childhood home. I can’t afford to lose any more.

My fingernails dig into my palm as my hands ball into fists at my sides while I watch Adaline tip back her head and laugh. I need to get a grip. I’m losing it. This shouldn’t bother me. In fact, I shouldn’t even give a shit that they’re hanging out. Adaline and I can’t be anything.

Book Tour – Unlucky in Love

Unlucky in Love
A.J. Renee

Publication date: January 30th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Lucky in Love.

That’s the name of the dating app I picked, hoping to find Mr. Better Than Average so I can hold off planning my future as a cat lady.

I’ve been distracted eyeballing a tall, dark, and handsome Latin hottie who works in the library with me. He is way out of my league, and a woman has needs if you know what I mean.

Finding a man shouldn’t be hard when all I have to do is swipe left or right. It’ll weed out the slimy men who have Bad Date written all over them.

Yeah, I’m learning quickly that I’m rather unlucky in love after all. The men I pick need warning labels, kissing lessons, and a good talking-to about manners.

Should I throw in the towel, or will this series of bad dates be exactly what I need to win Mr. Right?

KITTY’S BOOK SPOT!

Author Interview with Author, A.J. Renee

  1. What was your favorite book in your youth?

I loved reading the Babysitter’s Club.

  1. Do you write to music or make music playlists for your works?

It depends on my mood. I created my first playlist for Unlucky in Love.

  1. Your degrees and education are quite impressive. What started the urge to write?

Thanks. I’ve always had a creative streak but never imagined I’d be a writer. My best friend passed suddenly, and a story popped in my head that wouldn’t shut up until I wrote it. Widower’s Aura was the product of my grief and it set me on my current path.

  1. What are you hoping your writing/this book will impress upon your readers?

Unlucky in Love is about hope. Izzy left the dating game and decides to give things a try again. The outcome isn’t what she expects and just as she considers giving up she’s surprised. Life is full of surprises. You don’t always find love where you expect it or when you want it. Don’t lose hope.

  1. Will you share something with our readers that you have never shared with anyone else?

I’m a pretty open person so this is hard! Not a clever fact but no one knows… Izzy’s boss in Unlucky in Love was inspired by my old boss doing that same job.

  1. Do you have another genre you want to write but have not tried yet?

I love reading romance novels, so I don’t see myself leaving the genre as a writer. Maybe one day an idea will form for a novel in Horror?

  1. What most influences your books?

Life. People I meet or see spurn the ideas. Sometimes out on a run something will come out of nowhere and I’m forced to stop and jot it down in my phone.

  1. Where is a fan best to find you online?

I’m on a variety of social media, but I’m the most active on Facebook or my reader group, St. Fleur Belles.
